WHO AM I?
Hi I’m Merlin, a versatile audio designer and general audio obsessive with over 20 years of electronic music production experience. Starting out as an electronic music producer and performer my music has taken me all over the UK and Europe.
After living in Malta for 3 years in 2018 I returned to the UK, deciding to pivot to sound design and start a game audio degree. I see immersive technology and its potential for awe inspiring sound as being at the absolute cutting edge of audio production and nothing excites me more than exploring new technologies, spaces and stories. It’s where I want to be.
Having completed my degree I have obtained a rounded knowledge of all aspects of the game and XR audio pipeline. I have completed a number of procedural audio/technical sound design projects, worked on games in both Unity and Unreal using both in-engine and middleware audio solutions.
WHAT DO I DO?
Multimedia Sound Design
More than anything else, I love to make sounds. I love every aspect of the process. The recording and synthesising, sampling, editing, slicing and dicing. I live for it, and my background in electronic music gives me the edge in creating unique atmospheres and punchy dynamics.
Game Audio Implementation
Middleware and in-engine audio implementation. From sound effects and foley to interactive music. I am proficient with C#/Unity and Blueprints/Unreal and the top middlewares. I relish any opportunity to learn new and unfamiliar technologies.
Procedural Audio & DSP
Procedural audio. Whether it’s implementing a streamlined sound engine for mobile or complex interactive granular synthesis for VR, I love building procedural audio solutions that will get the job done.
Organisation and pipeline design. Anyone working in games or app development knows that documentation is key. From JIRA, and spreadsheets to the nitty gritty details, like organising dialogue sessions, asset tracking and repo management. I can build an evolving GDD that scales with the project.
